SAUVETERRE DE ROUERGUE
The city

Because of the lack of land, the bastide served commercial and administrative purposes, helped in this by the fiscal advantages bestowed by the king. Activities began to develop - a forge, cutlery works, millinery, drapery, butchers - which supplied other businesses or exported their goods. Arcades, workshops and boutiques offered proof of the town's economic effervescence. Gradually it grew structured and organised.
